MELAKA: Most victims of on-line scams are ladies folk, says Bukit Aman Business Crime Investigation Division director Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob.
He acknowledged that 55% of the victims had been ladies folk above the age of 51, adding that most fell into the trap when scammers threatened to confiscate their properties below Anti-Cash Laundering Act.
Comm Zainuddin acknowledged this after a ceremony between outgoing Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mat Kasim Karim and original Melaka prime cop Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali at Melaka police headquarters here on Monday (Nov 16)
Comm Zainuddin acknowledged some 5,218 on-line scams had been reported between January and October this year, adding that over RM265mil used to be lost and a pair of,676 arrests had been made.
He acknowledged there had been 5,725 experiences in 2019 though-provoking losses amounting to RM254mil while 4,965 cases had been reported in 2018 with losses totalling RM226mil.
“In 2018,2, 233 arrests had been made with 705 cases had been prosecuted while 1804 arrests and 994 prosecutions had been performed in 2019,” he added.
