MELAKA: Most victims of online scams are girls, says Bukit Aman Industrial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob.
He acknowledged that 55% of the victims possess been girls above the age of 51, including that nearly all fell into the trap when scammers threatened to confiscate their properties under Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Comm Zainuddin acknowledged this after a ceremony between outgoing Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mat Kasim Karim and original Melaka top cop Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali at Melaka police headquarters right here on Monday (Nov 16)
Comm Zainuddin acknowledged some 5,218 online scams possess been reported between January and October this year, including that over RM265mil became once misplaced and 2,676 arrests possess been made.
He acknowledged there possess been 5,725 reports in 2019 arresting losses amounting to RM254mil while 4,965 circumstances possess been reported in 2018 with losses totalling RM226mil.
“In 2018,2, 233 arrests possess been made with 705 circumstances possess been prosecuted while 1804 arrests and 994 prosecutions possess been performed in 2019,” he added.
