MELAKA: Most victims of online scams are girls, says Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Division director Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob.
He talked about that 55% of the victims maintain been girls above the age of 51, adding that most fell into the trap when scammers threatened to confiscate their properties beneath Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Comm Zainuddin talked about this after a ceremony between outgoing Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mat Kasim Karim and current Melaka prime cop Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali at Melaka police headquarters here on Monday (Nov 16)
Comm Zainuddin talked about some 5,218 online scams maintain been reported between January and October this three hundred and sixty five days, adding that over RM265mil became as soon as misplaced and a pair of,676 arrests maintain been made.
He talked about there maintain been 5,725 experiences in 2019 intelligent losses amounting to RM254mil whereas 4,965 cases maintain been reported in 2018 with losses totalling RM226mil.
“In 2018,2, 233 arrests maintain been made with 705 cases maintain been prosecuted whereas 1804 arrests and 994 prosecutions maintain been performed in 2019,” he added.
